We are excited to have special guest Mark Semmelbeck, the CEO and founder of “A Better Meal” on this week of the Maria Liberati Show!
Mark went to Texas A&M and was educated as an engineer, then spent fifteen years in the consulting world and owned an independent gas company for 20 years. At the end of 2019, Mark and his partner decided to do something different. At the start of 2020, he wanted to look at how we keep track of our groceries and have an app that could recommend what we make with what we have.
Due to COVID-19, we were all eating in the comfort of our homes due to the limited access we had to restaurants. We could not depend on that part of our lives, so it was up to us to plan meals for ourselves. This really put things into perspective for Mark as we could all do a better job with eating healthier. So, Mark had the idea to build an app to keep track of what you have and help with meal planning and to make it less stressful.
Meal plan is front and center with recipes and a good recipe database, and the app is able to make a grocery list from those recipes. The app is also trying to go against consumer behavior as you can already use what you have without spending extra money on food.
“It’s more than just AI, it’s community also,” says Semmelbeck.
These communities consist of people sharing ideas of how to eat more healthily, how to get our kids to eat healthy foods, and how to make those small changes that make us more healthy.
A big deal for the app is making it fun. The app “A Better Meal” is producing their cooking videos with an excellent trained chef who teaches people how to cut an onion to how to make yummy, healthy meals!
With “A Better Meal,” people can be entertained, educated, and make life easier.
